Talking To Me? The ABC of Communication
Eva Bertilsson is a behavior nerd and teacher of all species. She works with education and consultations through Carpe Momentum, and recently added a master’s degree in behavior analysis to her 25 years’ experience with positive reinforcement training. Internationally she is mostly known from her 10 years on faculty at Karen Pryor’s Clicker Expo, while the Scandinavian audience recognizes her as a dog training instructor, TAGteach educator, and disseminator of behavioral principles and best-practices within animal care
During the past year Eva has been running a behavior management project within Naturbruksförvaltningen, developing animal care practices and managing educational events – for example this CCC conference!
In behavior analysis, ABC stands for antecedent-behavior-consequence. ABC is the basic unit for understanding the behavior of individuals: how they use their behavior to impact their world an how their behavior, in turn, is shaped by these interactions. Communication is about interaction between individuals. In this session, Eva will guide us into viewing communication through the ABC lense and discuss how we can hone and enhance the language skills of our non-human companions.
Start Button behaviors takes positive reinforcement training to a whole new level! Start buttons (and stop buttons) allow the learner to cue the trainer, and thereby control the pace and progress of the training session. In this presentation, a quartet of our speakers join forces and share their applications of this cutting edge approach.
